Hi everyone! I have been working on an exciting new series that I am thrilled to finally share with you all. A good friend of mine, Bradley Lithgow, and I have decided to join our artistic passions and create this fun and experimental collaborative series.
We have been friends for years, and while I completed my BA (Fine Arts) degree at the University of Pretoria, he completed his Bmus degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. To be honest I'm not sure why we did not try this project a lot earlier. I don't know if you all feel the same way, but I feel like lockdown has really given people time to try things they have always wanted to do but never really gotten around to doing. Even if that means you do these things in your pyjamas.
Brad and I got chatting one day over Zoom, as many of us have been doing with family and friends during lockdown, and decided to give this intriguing project a ago. We are calling it "The Visual Sound Series". It is still very experimental and we are learning and trying out new things as we go. The session occurs live over the Zoom platform giving myself and Brad the ability to freely improvise visually and sonically based on what we each in turn see and hear being created in the moment.
In this first project, Brad is performing on the Hang Drum and I am using watercolours in response. The end product is quite interesting and abstract. Going forward, we may vary the time, instruments and maybe even the art media used. I hope you enjoy watching and listening to our first piece. Let us know what you think.
