Welcome from the artist!

Updated: Jun 8, 2020

Hi everyone! I am so excited to welcome you all to my blog. For those of you that don't know me, I am Julia Williams of Williams Watercolours. I graduated with my BA(Fine Arts) degree from the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 2016. I am a South African artist living in Ireland with my amazing husband.

We only just recently moved to this beautiful country. If you have never visited Ireland before, it is definitely a country you should add to your bucket list. The breathtaking Irish landscapes and views have been so inspiring as you will see in many of my latest pieces. South Africa is and always will be part of my very being, with an incredible landscape of its own, which you will also see in many of my artworks. This is even more apparent when I am feeling a little home sick. Yes, another incredible country you should add to your bucket list.

In my work, I am particularly intrigued and inspired by the notions of memory and documentation. I work with an array of different materials, but my passion is working with pen, pencil and watercolours. I love how quickly I can work with the watercolours and at the same time create layers of meaning. During lockdown, I have been more experimental with my work trying and testing new methods and materials in my quaint home studio.

I have decided to start this blog in the hopes of sharing fun and interesting tips, techniques, experiences and experiments along my art journey with you all. As a qualified art teacher as well, I have a deep passion for sharing my love of art with others. I hope this platform will allow me to do just that and inspire your creative journey, or maybe just give you a little bit more of an understanding and insight into the art world.

Welcome to my studio in Maynooth Ireland.
